The video titled "Who is your Joan?" seems to mark another in a series of videos about Phantom Regiment's 2019 show and the women that inspired the members/staff. In this particular episode, Program Coordinator and Brass Arranger/Composer Will Pitts talks about the inspiration from the "Joan of Arc story." Check out their previous episode about Phantom Regiment drum major Claire Wilcox sharing her thoughts on her inspirer: Dr. Melissa Gustafson-Hinds, the current band director for the O'Fallon Township band.

He outlines the importance of "not just her own bravery, but also how she inspired others to take up that cause and follow her into battle." He mentions that there are many instances where this takes place—women leading a cause when no one else would stand up—and even within their very own drum corps.

Daniel Simerly was inspired by his sister, Kellie Simerly, not only to march Phantom Regiment but also to push himself every day to live up to the standards set by Kellie.

"There was no excuse for me to ever not be at my best when I could see her thriving. I always had that pushing me, driving me—like, I want to be that good. I need to be that good."

Will Pitts continues to explain the parallels between Daniel and Kellie's story to their portrayal of the "Joan of Arc" story in their show.

"After we've empowered these women in our production to stand up and take the cause and fight back, we then see a moment where they inspire everyone else around them to follow them into battle. To take up arms and follow them into this process of trying to change the world around them."

It is at this moment that he drops the bomb, "we want to use material that is inspiring, that is easy to understand the emotional context that's there, but also is something ("Fire of Eternal Glory" begins) that has an immediate connection to this drum corps."

So there you have it. Fire of Eternal Glory will be back on the field this year from Phantom Regiment—and this time, not in the form of an encore. Get ready for it folks—I can already feel the goosebumps.
