2022 Program Spotlight: Trumbull High School

This week we’re taking a second to shine a spotlight on the Trumbull High School Golden Eagle Marching Band, directed by Band Director Josh Murphy. Based out of Trumbull, CT, the group has repeatedly been recognized as one of the nation’s finest marching programs, having received a wide array of awards including recently receiving the Percussion Caption Award at USBands Nationals in 2021, the Best Color Guard Caption Award in 2019, and winning the Gold Medal at USBands Nationals in 2016. In addition to performing competitively throughout the Fall, they have also participated in many well-known parades across the country including the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, a variety of Disney World Parades, and even had the honor of representing Connecticut in the 54th and 56th Presidential Inaugural Parades.

Their 2022 Program is titled “The Lost City” and is based on the Legend of the Lost City of Atlantis. With the help of large A-shaped props, built by the band parents, and impressive drill written by Jeffrey Thompson, the students are immersed in this landscape with the city all around them. Led by Vanessa Vizcarrondo, the color guard really emphasizes and guides the entire mood of the production, even implementing a costume change at some point in the show. Musically, their writers this season are pulling from a couple pieces of music such as “Wine Dark Sea” by John Mackey, “Collide” by Jacob Remington, and “Coronation” by Ilhan Eshkeri.

“I can’t speak more highly of the kids and their own ability, from individual to individual, to overcome any challenge that comes their way… It’s just really exciting to be a part of this again and to see the kids really take ownership of the City of Atlantis and follow how that story goes.” Benjamin Rust,  Visual Technician
