'Paradise Lost' Revealed As Boston Crusaders 2022 Production

As part of their 2022 Giving Day donation drive, Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps ended the evening  by giving fans a peek inside their 2022 production titled 'Paradise Lost.'

The 2022 show is inspired by the epic poem 'Paradise Lost' by John Milton, which is based on the Biblical story of The Garden of Eden. The show will explore various emotions, including wonder, knowledge, corruption, and consequence.

Musical selections for the program include:

  • A Child's Garden of Dreams by David Maslanka
  • What A Wonderful World by Bob Thiele / George Weiss
  • Bad Hombres (Y Mujeres) by Antonio Sanchez
  • Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You by Bob Crewe / Bob Gaudio
  • Symphony No. 7: Movement 3 by David Maslanka
  • Requiem in D Minor, K. 626: VII. Lacrimosa by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Fans can look forward to some exciting stylistic choices that the BAC staff will be taking on this summer. In their Giving Day show explainer video, we hear about how the corps will be utilizing solos and small ensembles to a level the staff has never experimented with before. Minimalistic metal tree props will add to the landscape being created on the field and allow performers to play with vertical height throughout the show, adding even more to the immersive scene the designers are hoping to achieve this season.

Focusing on the Boston guard: this year will be the biggest guard that Boston has ever competed, no doubt thanks to DCI raising the limit of the number of performers allowed on the field this season. The guard also has 30+ returning vets this season, which is absolutely bonkers. Given BAC's dominance in the color guard caption over the past few competitive seasons, I'm incredibly excited to see their mind-blowing talent on the field and how they add to the overall production.

But the thing I'm most excited about? Having 'Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You' turned on its head and written as a tango... with 26 trombones on the field.

If you're itching for more information about is year's BAC show, the corps put out a more long-form show explainer video that fans can check out on their Facebook page. A sneak peek of the opening battery feature starts at the 9:46 minute marker, and the in-depth show explainer starts at 12:42.

You can catch a performance of 'Paradise Lost' this summer in early-season competition at the DCI Tour Premiere and CrownBEAT, in addition to DCI Glassboro on August 3rd, DCI Eastern Classic on August 5th, and at DCI World Championships starting on August 11th.
