Ultimate Watch Guide: WGI 2022 Guard World Championships

The start of April means that WGI World Championships season is upon us. Over the next week, some of the best Guard programs in the world will take the floor in Dayon, Ohio as they compete for gold.

Hundreds of groups will be performing in preliminary competition, but only the best of the best will make it through to Finals competition on Saturday night. Who will be crowned best-in-class? Only time will tell.

Points of Focus

  • The always-competitive Independent World class will have an exciting finale. Pride of Cincinnati have yet to meet Diamante during the competitive season but are only separated by 0.1 points as of their last scored competition, with Pride edging out Diamante.
  • In Scholastic World, Avon HS, Carmel HS, Center Grove HS, and Miamisburg have all seen each other twice during the season. Avon HS has been leading the class while also going for their third consecutive gold medal. 
  • The Independent Open class is one to keep your eye on - there has been no clear front-runner throughout the season, though ORIGINS Independent has racked up impressive since day one. Will that impressive streak hold up?
