DCI's Acheson Warns That Another Story On Misconduct 'Is Forthcoming'

After being informed of another story of misconduct involving drum corps' staff members and the performers, Drum Corps International's CEO Dan Acheson released a statement.

The statement includes a quote from the reporter that informed DCI of the story that could be published at any moment.

The reporter states, "It will outline a number of examples I have found of people who have worked or volunteered in the activity in recent years who were accused of having inappropriate relationships with students or who have criminal records including crimes of a sexual nature. It will be an in-depth look at these cases and at the policies of both DCI and individual corps.”

Acheson goes on to answer a few hypothetical questions that have been on the minds of fans and participants of drum corps since the spring.

"Criminal records? DCI has a background check policy.  Inappropriate relationships? DCI prohibits them. Not adhering to the Code of Conduct for hiring practices or any other violation? DCI can prohibit participation. And we have" he finished.

In May, the organization updated their code of conduct and ethics guidelines for corps and participants that "includes clear definitions of many forms of misconduct, measures for individual and organizational accountability, and mandatory reporting guidelines."
