The Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps are bringing back one of their own to help lead the corps in a new direction. DCI Hall of Famer and former Madison Scout Brass Caption Head, James Elvord will be returning to the Scouts as their new Artistic Director and Staff Coordinator.

In a statement from the Madison Scouts Elvord expressed his excitement about returning to Madison.

“I can’t wait to get started,” said Elvord. “We have lots of work to do and I will be announcing new staff appointments during the upcoming weeks. I’m excited about our new design team and they are ready to build an exciting program for the 2019 season.”

Elvord is no stranger to the Madison Scouts. Having aged-out with the Scouts, he quickly rose through the ranks of instructors to become the brass caption head in the 70's. As a result of his leadership, Madison jumped from 14th in 1972 to capture their first world championship in 1975. During which Elvord's hornlines captured three straight high brass awards ('73, '74, '75).

“James [Elvord] has been a trusted advisor to the organization and a mentor to me for many years,” said Executive Director Chris Komnick. “He brings tremendous leadership focus, experience, and wisdom to the organization. I’m excited about his vision for the Madison Scouts moving forward.”

Elvord has experience teaching throughout DCI including time spent at the Santa Clara Vanguard, The Cavaliers, Spirit of Atlanta, Troopers, Southwind, Glassmen, 27th Lancers, Sacramento Freelancers, Seneca Optimists, and Alberta All-Girls.
