A beautiful June evening at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA, welcomed 12 corps into its embrace in front of an eager crowd on Saturday. The night kicked off with Open Class including performances from Incognito, Watchmen, Impulse, and Golden Empire. There was one Open Class corps that grabbed everyone's attention and quickly became a highlight of the night.

Later Saturday evening, the best of the best in DCI World Class presented their shows after another week of additions and hard work. SCV showed off its new closer and more. Blue Devils showed up with some stunning drill. Not to mention, the guard was on fire.

As Good As Gold

Gold's 2018 show "Through Our Eyes" turned heads on Saturday evening in the Rose Bowl. The corps was distinctly powerful and the crowd responded as such. Its new half-black, half-white uniforms are risky but reward the members when they are marching perfectly in sync.

The judges rewarded the corps for the strong showing and gave Gold a 57.000, a full 1.25 higher than its score the night before.

Keep an eye on Gold as it progresses through this season ahead of the DCI Open Class World Championships in August.

Returning To Babylon

After a week away from each other, Santa Clara Vanguard and the Blue Devils set their sights for the Rose Bowl. BD had a few System Blue days and long rehearsal days in Southern California, while SCV had a few rehearsal days and a show the night before.

It turns out Vanguard had put in some good work and showed off a brand-new closer as well as some solos from a few very impressive musicians. The corps is getting extremely strong at its show and the judges thought so too. SCV earned a 77.75—0.75 over the Blue Devils.

BD also came out with a very good run and displayed its tuning from the previous week. Only 0.75 back, the Blue Devils were just 0.05 behind in visual and 0.20 behind in music. The two corps have split up for now until a Tour of Champions show in Oklahoma on July 17 but will be together again later that week in San Antonio for the DCI Southwestern Championship.
