DCI's Plan B For Rained-Out Shows
DCI's Plan B For Rained-Out Shows
DCI approved a motion to get the corps to prepare a selection of music specifically designed for shows that get rained out.
Corps directors have unanimously approved a motion at the DCI Annual Meeting in Indianapolis on Friday to create a "Plan-B" performance for shows that get rained out.
When shows get rained out, event staff and corps are typically sent scrambling to the indoor venue for a standstill performance rather than missing out entirely. However, the logistics of moving front ensemble equipment plus performers and fans turns into a nightmare.
DCI CEO and Executive Director Dan Acheson presented the idea of having the corps prepare a 7-8-minute Plan-B performance specifically design for these scenarios. Plan-B would be a stripped-down version of the corps' current production or could be a completely different collection of music with just battery and brass instruments.
"If you can't carry it, you can't play it," Dan said in summary.
The idea is to create a smoother and faster transition for everyone at the indoor venue but still provide great entertainment to the spectators.
Once the idea went to motion it was approved unanimously by all in attendance.
