The Couchmen Drum and Bugle Corps have a long history of providing the fans of the marching arts with laughs on social media. Well now they are bringing that comedy to the field.
"We are thrilled and overjoyed to be fielding a corps next year," Executive Director Zach Ashcraft said. "Seeing the Couchmen take the field for the first time will bring tears to my eyes."
The corps will be performing a very Couchmen-like show for their inaugural season. The show will be called Dining With The Couchmen.
"I'm so happy with the show concept that allows the corps to put it's best foot forward and do a show with so much intellectual and emotional depth," Ashcraft said.
The music is a custom arrangement of John Cage's 4'33". Ashcraft will dust off his marching shoes and become the corps lone performer for the show.

Couchmen Drum & Bugle Corps in the lot for Finals
"As a ode to the history of drum corp we are returning to its roots," Program Coordinator Dave Foth said. "No more electronics, no trombones, no printed graphics, no front ensemble, no B-flat horns, no horns at all for that matter. No drums, no flags, and a minimal membership of 1 performer much like the original music."
The show will demonstrate the Couchmen's most unique talent. Sitting on a couch, eating pizza.
A team of volunteers selected in the lot of before each show will carry Ashcraft sitting on top of his favorite furniture piece into the stadium. Then using precision drill will place the couch on the 50 yard line 2 steps inside the front side line.
As the arrangement of 4'33" begins, Ashcraft will then demonstrate the years of practice the Couchmen have become famous for by opening a box of freshly delivered pizza and downing a couple of slices.
Ashcraft would not reveal how the show ends but said it may change depending on the venue. We can only speculate at this point.
