Record Crowds Gather at DCI Events, But That's Just Half the Story

In case you haven't noticed, crowds at DCI events are getting bigger and bigger -- just check out some of the insane numbers we've posted below.

Keep in mind, these numbers only represent paid attendance -- that doesn't include the folks who brave 100-plus-degree temperatures to watch the warm-up in the lots outside the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Crowds at finals this year may have dipped slightly due to the weather, but nationwide numbers suggest DCI is growing. Take a look at the paid attendance for the regional events held at the Alamodome and the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

According to, more than 330,000 fans packed stadiums across the country during the 2015 campaign. This included a three-day total attendance of 44,132 at finals in Indianapolis.

Just by glancing around, it's easy to see hundreds, if not thousands, of fans milling around outside the venues; as a result, it wouldn't be a reach to add another 10,000 fans to the total summer attendance. Just take a look at the warm-up for Guardians this year at the San Antonio Regional. They performed at 2PM for a robust crowd.


Blue Devils Announce "Ghostlight" For DCI 2019 Season

Thursday morning, May 16, a post hit the Blue Devils' Instagram account asking for 15,000 likes, promising that they would release their 2019 program if they did. This morning, after nearly a full day of keeping the drum corps community on their toes and not saying anything else on their accounts—and gaining 22,000 likes total—they announced "Ghostlight."

WGI Advisory Board Proposals For 2019 Las Vegas Meetings

Each May, the WGI Advisory Board for each division of Winter Guard International meets in a location with the goal of voting on rule and policy proposals for the upcoming season. The meetings will take place on May 17-18 in Las Vegas, NV, where the Advisory Boards for Percussion, Winds, and Guard will all meet at Red Rock Casino Resort.
