Breaking news out of Austin, Texas - Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps has made the incredibly difficult decision to go inactive for the 2027 Drum Corps International season. 

Here's what the organization had to say about the hiatus:

After careful consideration and extensive discussion, the Board of Directors of Genesis Drum & Bugle Corps has made the difficult but responsible decision to be inactive for the 2027 competitive season.

This was not an easy decision.

Genesis has always believed that the experience provided to its members must come first. As operational costs across non-profit performing arts have increased, our current revenue model makes it increasingly difficult to provide the level of experience, resources, instruction, and support our members deserve.

Rather than compromise that commitment simply to remain on the field, Genesis will use 2027 to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the organization, including its financial model, operations, member experience, and long-term sustainability.

This past DCI season, Genesis finished 23rd at Semifinals with a score of 76.675. Their show, 'AbstRacT' featured music by Lindsey Stirling, Radiohead, Andrew Webber, and more.

Genesis joins an increasing number of corps from across all classes that opt to take a hiatus year rather than stretch the budget to uncomfortable levels and risk adversely affecting the members and the organization as a whole. In recent years, corps like the Mandarins, Santa Clara Vanguard, and Guardians have taken a break from competition in order to regain momentum financially and set the organization up for success down the line.
