Get excited about early-season action across the country, including competitions in Kansas City (Guard), Temecula (Perc), Indianapolis (Winds), and many more hotspots of pageantry. A new element mixed into the start of a new WGI season: Power Regionals are out, and Regional+ events are in. What exactly is a Regional+? You can find a detailed article from WGI here explaining the change, but here's the TL;DR:
Modeled after the highly regarded Power Regionals, REGIONAL+ events feature a double panel of judges for all finals performances. This means every finalist group will be evaluated by two full panels of adjudicators, offering a broader, more comprehensive perspective on each show. Doubling the adjudication in finals provides groups with a wider variety of feedback essential for refining their program, preparing for World Championships, and growing throughout the season.
WGI cited accessibility (both financial and logistical) as a contributing factor behind the move to the Regional+ format.
The 2026 WGI Guard Championships will be held on April 9-11, and WGI Percussion/Winds Championships from April 16-19.
