This week, WGI unveiled what they are calling 'Regional+ events' for the upcoming WGI season. Regional+ events are said to mark a "significant evolution in the competitive landscape, improving the accessibility of traditional Power Regional events with an enhanced adjudication model to better serve performers and educators across the activity." Here's what WGI had to say about Regional+ events in their official press release:

Modeled after the highly regarded Power Regionals, Regional+ events feature a double panel of judges for all finals performances. This means every finalist group will be evaluated by two full panels of adjudicators, offering a broader, more comprehensive perspective on each show. Doubling the adjudication in finals provides groups with a wider variety of feedback essential for refining their program, preparing for World Championships, and growing throughout the season.

When explaining why WGI is moving to this new Regional+ format, financial and logistical challenges were cited, stating that "WGI made a strategic decision to prioritize adjudication access and educational value, ensuring that groups across all regions and resource levels have meaningful opportunities for development."

WGI also stated that over 25 Regional+ events will be coming our way in 2026, allowing for ensembles in areas with smaller populations or limited access to multi-day competitions to still have the opportunity to perform and receive a thorough critique from the judges. These added Regional+ events will be a mix of both single-day and multi-day events. 

The press release is concluded with the following statement:

The Regional+ model—both in its one-day and two-day formats—reflects a renewed focus on equity, access, and excellence in performance. Whether you’re a returning finalist or attending your first WGI event, this new format is designed to support each group’s journey and celebrate their achievements.
