Jackson State University's 'Sonic Boom of the South' band has been very booked and busy.

Just one of the many performance opportunities the premier HBCU band has had lately is arguably one of the highest honors a program can have; hitting the field and performing during a Super Bowl Halftime show.

Super Bowl LVIII halftime headliner Usher took the field and performed a mash-up of his chart-topping hits, with the 'Sonic Boom of the South' featured prominently throughout the performance. 

While the Super Bowl Halftime performance only lasted about fifteen minutes, students from JSU's 'Sonic Boom' have been waiting an entire year for their opportunity to perform on the national stage. Students were hand-selected to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and worked with Super Bowl coordinators for ten days leading up to the big performance to go over timing, choreography, and nail down the fine details of the performance with the stage and the other background dancers and performers. 

Ultimate Drill Book also got in on the Super Bowl Halftime action, providing the 'Sonic Boom' with easier and more intuitive drill set learning with their premier UDBapp. In their own words, the UDBapp "modernizes marching band" by spending less time, having more fun, and achieving at a higher level. As UDB is the go-to marching band drill learning tool for drum corps, college, and high school marching bands across the nation, the partnership between UDB and the 'Sonic Boom' for the Super Bowl LVIII Halftime performance just makes sense.

Overall, I think we can all agree that this Halftime performance was a huge win for the marching band community and its fans.
