How To Watch: 2023 CAA Field Hockey Championship Semifinals On Friday

The 2023 CAA Field Hockey Championship opens with semifinal action on Friday from the University of Delaware and you can watch the entire event live on FloLive.

The tournament begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 3, with top-seeded Monmouth facing fourth-seeded Northeastern. Following the first matchup, second-seeded Drexel squares off against third-seeded William & Mary at 4 p.m.

The winners from each semifinal advance to the CAA Championship at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, for a chance to claim the conference title and the league’s automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Monmouth (11-5, 5-1 CAA) continued its success from year one in the conference, winning its second straight CAA Regular Season title to qualify for the postseason in a 10th consecutive season. The Hawks play complementary field hockey, ranking second in the league in scoring average (2.81) and goals-against average (1.49). Offensively, Sofia Fouces leads the conference with 39 points and 17 goals, scoring at least one tally in 13 contests this fall. In the cage, freshman Jessie Eiselin matched a CAA-best with five shutouts while ranking second in the conference in save percentage (.778) and goals-against average (1.51). Monmouth will look to earn its first CAA Tournament victory this weekend. Drexel (14-5, 4-2) returns to the CAA Championship field for a second straight season after reaching the conference title game last fall. The Dragons won five of their final six regular-season contests, including a double-overtime victory in their CAA finale to secure a trip back to the postseason.

Drexel has been one of the top teams in the league all season, leading the conference in scoring margin (1.60) and posting a conference-best +33 goal differential. On the offensive end, the Dragons have three players in the top six in the CAA in points and are the only team in the league with two double-digit goal-scorers. Freshman Val Van Hellemont leads the team with 12 goals, and Natali Foster has a team-best 29 points (10g, 9a). Graduate goalkeeper Megan Hadfield anchors the top defensive unit in the conference, leading the CAA in goals-against average (1.07) and shutouts (5).

William & Mary (9-8, 4-2 CAA) is back in the CAA Tournament after missing the conference championship for the first time since 2015 last year. The Tribe enters the weekend winners in four of five games, including back-to-back wins to close out the regular season. W&M is led offensively by graduate forward Lauren Curran, who ranks third in the CAA in goals (11) and fifth in points (25). Audrey Domovich (7g, 3a) and Pyper Friedman (5g, 5a) join Curran with double-digit point totals on the season. William & Mary is the only team in the field with a CAA title in the past decade, winning its lone conference championship in 2018.

Northeastern (8-9, 3-3 CAA) makes its third consecutive appearance in the conference tournament and is searching for its first CAA Championship in program history. The Huskies are under the direction of first-year head coach Pam Spuehler, who governed Northeastern to be the top-scoring (2.81) offense in the CAA this season. The Huskies had three players with at least 20 points this season, led by Lauren Rowe with a team-best 26 points on nine goals and eight assists. Freshman Alex Mega matched a team-high with nine goals, while senior Sarah Coyle tied Rowe for the team lead in assists (8).

Monmouth and Northeastern had a high-scoring affair in their regular season matchup, with the Hawks edging the Huskies 5-3 to beat Northeastern for the third straight season. Meanwhile, Drexel won a lopsided affair against William & Mary, 7-1. It was the largest margin of victory all-time in the series and marks back-to-back wins for the Dragons over W&M for the first time since 2012-13.
