10:49pm CT / 11:49pm ET - Conclusion of Performances

And that's it for tonight's performances! Stay tuned for the announcement of scores.

10:35pm CT / 11:35pm ET - Blue Devils, "The Cut-Outs"

Last corps of the evening, folks! Be sure to get in those last-minute votes in our Fan Favorite poll for tonight's show. Click here to vote now!

  • The guard soloist who starts off this show absolutely gives me life. Standing ovation for that member. You know who else deserves a standing ovation? The drumset player and guitar player who intro this show because MAN, does it get me hyped every time.
  • Hoo boy, what an opening movement. Talk about firing on all cylinders. And then this snare feature directly after?! Unreal.
  • Nobody does up-tempo jazz like the Blue Devils and you will never convince me otherwise. This whole jazzy movement is such a vibe and the absolute definition of cool.
  • Ballad time. You know what that means? Time to CRY WHILE THIS CORPS PLAYS 'BOTH SIDES NOW.'
  • The last sixty seconds of this show are so so good. It's got insanely loud chords, killer drill, and guard work that is unreal. BD knows what they're doing this year, y'all.

10:15pm CT / 11:15pm ET - Boston Crusaders, "White Whale"

It's time to ship up to Boston, y'all! Strap in because Boston Crusaders will take the field shortly.

  • The intro flugelhorn solo is so haunting; it really sets the scene for the grim tale that Boston is about to tell us.
  • The Boston low brass section is truly unreal. Their feature in this second movement sounds nails every single time and their sound quality is always top-notch. W-O-W!
  • Boston battery feature. That's it. That's the tweet.
  • The 'Wellerman' tuba feature goes SO hard. But honestly, my favorite part isn't even the feature: it's the crowd reaction after the feature. Hearing people go wild for it always makes me smile. Same thing for the 'Shipping Up to Boston' segment. I love when it's clear that the marching members (and the crowd) are enjoying themselves while watching a performance.
  • This! Ending! Movement! It's everything. It leaves me speechless every time. Well deserving of the standing ovation that the ensemble got at the conclusion of their performance!

9:55pm CT / 10:55pm ET - Bluecoats, "The Garden of Love"

We're closing in on the finale of DCI Broken Arrow. Up next: Bluecoats and their 2023 program, The Garden of Love.

  • Bluecoats really are masters at setting the scene: between the props, soundscape, and tarps, fans really are able to root themselves firmly in this world Bloo are creating for us.
  • BIG shoutout to the sabre line at the end of this first movement. Y'all absolutely crushed that ensemble toss moment.
  • Now, I'll be the first to admit that I don't know the most about percussion and drum beats, but this is sounding like a really clean run for the battery. They're really throwing down tonight!
  • Nobody asked for my opinion, but I think this Bluecoats ballad is tied with Crown's ballad for being my absolute favorite of the season. The emotion from the performers truly pours out of them during this movement! And that flugelhorn high note at the end!!! I'm deceased.
  • The energy Bluecoats put into this closer is absolutely bonkers. What an AMAZING end to their show!

9:38pm CT / 10:38pm ET - The Cadets, "Atlas Rising"

Okay Cadets, let's see what you've got! It's been about a week since I last watched the Erie-based corps perform, so I'm excited to see what they put on the field tonight.

  • This show intro goes so hard by starting off with a percussion and battery feature that is so clean. And then we get hit with a massive wall of sound with the opening hit. Let's gooooo.
  • Okay, Cadets guard - your ensemble toss was absolutely spotless. 😍
  • This trumpet soloist is absolutely crushing it. Honestly, the entirety of this ballad is so breathtaking between the horn line and the flag work.
  • This snare feature is so underrated and so good. Give it up for the Cadets battery, y'all! Also, can we talk about this DRUMSET SOLO?!
  • MVPs of this show are the trumpet section. They are absolutely crushing a demanding as-heck book, all while having enough steam to finish off the show with such power and precision. Thank you for a wonderful performance, Cadets!

9:19pm CT / 10:19pm ET - Carolina Crown, "The Round Table: Echoes of Camelot"

Up next, we've got Carolina Crown! In case you missed our Rankings and Caption Race post on social this afternoon, you're going to want to keep an eye on Crown. In both the Color Guard and Brass captions, the Rock Hill-based corps is nipping at the heels of Blue Devils and I, for one, am excited to see the caption breakdown after tonight's show.

  • This show intro has such an old-school drum corps vibe, I absolutely love it. It gives me OG Phantom Regiment vibes with the storytelling, throwing us right into the middle of the story. Between the French horn soloist and the guard, it's such a treat for the eyes and ears.
  • This opening hit is on a whole other level. This truly is Crown Brass at its finest. If you haven't already, you need to listen to this show with headphones to get the whole experience.
  • Allowing the battery and front ensemble to show off ahead of this second huge brass hit is such a nice moment. And that leads us right into THE Crown Brass feature. You know the one. I don't even need to give context. These members are so insanely talented.
  • The visual moment when the Round Table pulls apart right when the voice-over pauses is SO GOOD. It's such a powerful visual. And this trumpet/euphonium duet?! Ugh, it's just too good.
  • This year's closer may be one of my favorite movements that Crown has put on the field in the last five years. It's so up-tempo and fun while meshing excellent marching both from the horn line and the color guard. It gets me so hyped every time I listen to it. This ensemble is so good at producing such a BIG sound while sounding excellent. What a great performance from Crown tonight!

9:00pm CT / 10:00pm ET - Blue Stars, "In ABSINTHEia"

With Phantom Regiment out of the lineup, we're rolling right along with Blue Stars and their 2023 show titled, In ABSINTHEia.

  • I swear every time I watch this Blue Stars show, the baritone soloist sounds better and better! I really love how this show starts off. And this opening hit?! * chef's kiss *
  • The transition to the green uniforms always gets me. It's done so well and I love how throughout the ballad and closer, the whole corps transitions to the green uniforms. Also, can we talk about how beautiful this ballad duet is? Truly unreal.
  • One thing I always appreciate about Blue Stars is how they manage to spread the field and fill it up with color guard members during big impact moments. And this ballad is a perfect example of them doing just that.
  • I love love love this percussion feature that happens on the mounted cymbals. It adds such a cool timbre to the beginning of this movement.
  • One thing that I really love about this show is that it genuinely looks fun to perform, and to me, that's the definition of "doing it right."
  • This closer drill is so mesmerizing! Talk about high-octane, firing on all cylinders marching. Congrats on an amazing run, Blue Stars!

8:40pm CT / 10:04pm ET - Zephyrus Drum & Bugle Corps, "Multiplayer"

This is my first time seeing Zephyrus perform this season, and according to their website, this is their final performance of the season. I'm sure they'll dazzle the crowd with their 2023 show, Multiplayer.

  • Okay, guard soloist starting off the show strong! Really loving the dark intro setting up the show.
  • OOOH, I totally got faked out with what I thought would be the opening hit. but MAN the payoff was worth it. This ensemble may be small, but they're producing BIG sounds.
  • Shoutout to this battery - they're playing some really nice beats right now.
  • Absolutely love how the trombone line is being mirrored back by the other sections in the brass line on a bit of a delay. It's really leaning into that "glitchy," AI vibe and it sounds really dang cool!
  • What a high-energy performance from Zephyrus! They really started the night off with a bang. Very excited to see what this ensemble does this year and in the future!
