On December 12th, Santa Clara Vanguard announced via social media that they will not field a corps for the 2023 Drum Corps International season. The corps cited financial strife as a motivator behind the decision. A full statement outlining the present and future of Santa Clara Vanguard can be found on their website here.

Vanguard will survive this setback and be the standard for excellence and performance once again soon. Unthinkable times demand unthinkable solutions. While this is a difficult time, VMAPA is not willing to leverage the future of the organization with hopeful financial projections that will not square with reality. While this decision may seem detrimental to the future of SCV, it serves to ensure the success of SCV in future years. With this in mind, we make the sacrifice of a single year to ensure a thriving future for Vanguard for many years to come.

Founded in 1967, Santa Clara Vanguard is one of thirteen founding members of Drum Corps International and over the years has cemented itself as a pillar of excellence within the drum corps sphere. The Santa Clara-based corps has won seven DCI World Championships, most recently in 2018 with their iconic show, 'Babylon.' 

SCV claimed 5th place in the 2022 DCI season with their show titled, 'Finding Nirvana.' 

This news comes on the heels of the corps announcing a few months ago that the Vanguard Cadets would also not be fielding a corps in the 2023 season. The Vanguard Cadets took home the gold medal at this year's Open Class World Championships with their program titled, 'Something New.'
