If this past weekend revealed anything to the drum corps community, it is that the fans are the true winners for the 2017 Drum Corps International Tour.

In what has become one of the most competitive seasons to see the field, corps from all over Open and World Class have come out with incredibly immersive and enjoyable shows for the members and crowd, alike. Spanning from Minnesota to Florida to Washington, corps are spread far and wide but will be making the move across the country to meet up in San Antonio, Texas, as they prepare for the 2017 DCI Southwestern Championship on July 22.

Orlando, Florida's Camping World Stadium, previously known as the Citrus Bowl, last hosted World Championships in 2003, but on Sunday the crowd was given an equally exciting show under the lights. Carolina Crown, The Cavaliers and The Cadets have been leading a tight race along the East Coast and found themselves being pushed even harder by Boston Crusaders, following closely in fourth only 4.9 points from the contest's leader, Carolina Crown. Three of the four corps met again in Jupiter, FL, the following night when the Crusaders closed the gap with The Cadets from 1.45 (DCI Orlando) to 0.8 (DCI South Florida) and even edged out last year's sixth-place corps in the percussion sub-caption by 0.1 of a point.

The Cadets, The Cavaliers, and Carolina Crown also took some time out of their intense, busy rehearsal schedules on Sunday to perform in a parade throughout Disney Springs.

In Minnesota, we saw shuffling at the top, but what could be more interesting when August comes is the success we're seeing from groups that typically aren't contenders for the gold medal but have a chance to improve upon last year's placements in individual captions. Despite having a strong start to the 2017 season, Phantom Regiment's color guard was bested by the Blue Stars, who have been historically known to have an incredibly talented guard. One of the most recent examples of this took place in 2014, when the corps placed ninth overall but the guard received fourth on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Stadium.
