Preview: BOA Virginia Regional Championship, Oct. 26th

The Bands of America Virginia Regional Championship will be taking place in Lynchburg, VA, this coming Saturday, marking the only BOA show in Virginia this season. This show brings some of the East Coast's best bands together one last time before many of them make the trek out to Indianapolis for Grand Nationals in just a few weeks.

A few of these groups already have gone head to head to previous shows, including at the BOA East Tennessee Regional Championship just a few weeks ago. Could a few weeks of rehearsal change the standings as bands get to the end of their 2019 seasons?

FloMarching will be streaming the competition live from Liberty University starting with Salem H.S., VA at 8:00 am ET with an entire lineup for prelims spanning until Final Awards at 10:15 pm EDT. Here's a quick look at some key points to watch for:

Key Competitors

Like we mentioned before, a few of these groups have already made recent appearances at BOA shows and we have a good idea of what to expect from some of these ensembles.

Green Hope H.S., NC, who took home 4th place at the Johnson City regional will be joining us again this weekend with their show "In the Shadows of the Clocktower" which is a celebration of life and community.

Bassett H.S., VA, also from the Johnson City regional, will be joining us in their home state this time around for another great run of their show "Minor Alterations." The group came in 7th place at their last regional, with a score of 81.30.

Fellow finalists from the Johnson City regional Cleveland H.S., NC, will be making one of their last appearances of the 2019 season at this regional, performing their show, "WANTED: The Story of Bonnie and Clyde." They're hoping to improve their score of 82.9 and 5th place.

Also in attendance are Dobyns-Bennett H.S., TN. This group took home 2nd at the Johnson City regional just 0.05 points behind Lafayette H.S., KY. Dobyns-Bennett will again be performing their show "Fearless" and showing off their skills with quite the repertoire, featuring music by Shostakovitch among others.

Seminole H.S., FL, will be the only ensemble attending this Saturday from the state of Florida. After over 12 hours of travel to the show this weekend, Seminole will be performing their show, "Forbidden."

What to Watch

With so many great bands in attendance and so much great repertoire hitting the field, it's hard to pick what stands out most.

Cary Senior H.S., NC, will be bringing us their show "Wild Things" which is an original production by Andrew Markworth. Could this be a reference to the popular children's book? Maybe, maybe not. We'll have to watch to find out.

Carolina Forest H.S., SC, is doing a classic retelling of the Wizard of Oz story, which always helps to serve as a reminder that "There's No Place Like Home."

Join us on Saturday to catch all of these bands and more!
