The West Power Regional will feature a total of 89 units in preliminary competition with 43 SA, 9 IA, 14 SO, 10 IO, 4 SW, and 9 IW guards. Only 11 SA, 5 IA, 11 SO, 8 IO, and all of World Class will advance to Power Regional Finals on Sunday.

Because there are so many SA guards in competition, SA prelims and semifinals will be held at Cox Pavilion on the University of Las Vegas at 10:00 AM PT (1:00 PM ET/12:00 CT).

At the Thomas and Mack Center, things will also begin at 10:00 AM Pacific (1:00 PM ET/12:00 CT).

At this point, most shows are nearly in their finished state if not completely finished, so there's not much to do as a spectator but just enjoy.

If you're looking for groups you can see again at this year's WGI World Championships in April, then the rest of this preview will give you a good idea.

Scholastic A

In SA, only one school—Damonte Ranch HS (17th—is currently ranked in the top 25 by WGI. This means that there are a lot of unknown factors in SA because the groups haven't been seen recently or often and that getting into Finals at this regional could be anyone’s game.

Independent A

In IA, four units are currently ranked within the top 20 by WGI, including i-Squared (4th), Malachi Independent (5th), Icon Winter Guard with their program, “Break Some Ice,” and Coronado Independent Winterguard.

Scholastic Open

In SO, two schools are currently ranked within the top 20 by WGI. This includes El Capitan HS (10th) with their program, “Tomorrow,” and Arvin HS which currently sits in 17th.

Also, in contention for a spot at WGI World Championship Finals in Dayton is Diamond Bar HS's (25th) show “CMYK: A Study of Semitonal Landscapes.”

Independent Open

In IO, we have two units currently ranked within the top 20 by WGI. ORIGINS (7th), in their second year, has seen much success with their 2019 show “Though I Walk…"

Arete Winterguard's production "Moving Forward" has them in 14th. Not too far behind them is Vox Artium (23rd) with their program, “Will You?”

Scholastic World

In SW, only one school—Ayala HS (12th)—is currently ranked by WGI within the number of groups supposed to make finals. Right behind them, however, are El Dorado (18th) with their program, “Interrupted,” Stockdale (19th, and Arcadia (20th).

All of whom are potential contenders for a Finals spot in Dayton.

Independent World

In IW, five units are currently ranked within the top 15 by WGI, including Imbue (4th) Diamante (6th), CGT Dallas (9th), Fantasia (11th), and CGT Denton (13th).

Alongside the Mid-East Power Regional, the West Power Regional has the most top 15 IW units, and luckily, finals for each are timed so that you can finish watching Independent World at Mid-East, have a small snack, and hop over to catch all of Independent World at West.
