Waco Regional Is Final Tune Up For San Antonio

The 2018 BOA season has been a barn burner so far with 8 different bands winning regional championships at 9 different events. Four of those events have been in the state of Texas but we still have 2 more Texas events to go. The San Antonio Super Regional will undoubtedly be one of the biggest events of the year. However, the final regional will happen this weekend in Waco, Texas.

The 2018 BOA Waco Regional Championship, presented by Yamaha, gets going on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 8:15 AM CST.

WHO TO WATCH FOR?

Round Rock (TX) is a band that always has a very strong program. Round Rock debuted their new uniforms, based on their classic dragon design, at the Austin Regional a few weeks ago. Lead by their always strong percussion, Round Rock opens with dark and very aggressive first movement literally chasing a ballerina character around the field. They even spell out the word RUN. As the show progresses into the ballad, the guard begins to introduce very bright colors to a field that had been very void of color following a flute and English horn duet.

Centennial (TX) is a program that is on the rise. You may remember their WGI world class percussion section led by the talented young designer Richard Kearns. They took world class by storm in 2018 finishing 6th overall in their first season in scholastic world. It will be very interesting to see what they will bring to the field on Saturday as they make their one and only BOA appearance this fall.

When Burleson Centennial Made The Break

Marcus (TX) will take the field for the first time at a BOA show on Saturday. While Marcus doesn't really need much introduction they are under new leadership. Longtime director Amanda Drinkwater was named the Lewisville ISD Fine Arts Director last December. That paved the way for Jeffrey Jones to take over the program. A program that only has the 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014 5A/6A UIL Texas State Championships. A UIL 6A Bronze medal in 2016. As well as 2007, 2010, and 2012 BOA Super Regional Championships and finals appearances at BOA Grand National Championships in 2009, 2013, and 2017.

Dripping Springs (TX) will also be making their BOA 2018 debut. Dripping Springs will be packing a very powerful director/design duo of Derrick Woods and David Duffy. Woods has been a long time assistant director at Dripping Springs along with being the color guard director. Dripping Springs won the 2017 BOA South Texas Regional championship. You might remember David Duffy from Hendrickson (TX) as their assistant director and show designer. Now that Duffy has moved to Dripping Springs and team up with Woods. This should be a cutting-edge show.
