WGI Guard West Power Regional Lineup Calls For Popcorn

For West Coast guards, it’s all come down to this. As the final Guard Power Regional out West until World Championships in Dayton, Ohio, you're not going to want to miss this weekend's performances in San Diego—this is where groups will be leaving it all on the floor in preparation for a big finish.

The West Power Regional's lineup consists of 77 groups, with Scholastic A having its own location for prelims. SA prelims kick off Saturday at 10 AM PT at Mira Mesa High School, and prelims for all other classes start at 10 AM PT at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

With Arcadia High School, Ayala High School, Diamante, Fantasia, Imbue, and Malachi Independent all set to perform, here are a few picks you absolutely cannot pass up on Saturday.

See the full schedule for the 2018 WGI Guard West Power Regional at Jenny Craig Pavilion.

6:15 PM PT - Diamante

Sitting with a current seeding of ninth, Diamante is hitting the stage with a deeply emotional piece by artist Jorge Ménde, entitled "Don't Blink." With an 84.6 as its last score coming out of Week 6, Diamante's performance this weekend should be sure to stun.

5:45 PM PT - Imbue

Yet another group to watch for is Imbue, out of Modesto, CA. This season is its 10th on the floor, and as a regular contender in World Class finals, last year’s fourth-place finish in Dayton will surely be driving the group's passion for a huge finish.

WGI's official standings have Imbue listed as sixth in placement under CGT Dallas and right above AMP.

5:35 PM PT - Malachi Independent

The 2018 season marks an especially important year for Malachi Independent because it’s the ensemble's first time performing in World Class. The group made the announcement last May after receiving a World Championships final score of 89.25, noting that it was especially excited to see its age-outs return to the floor.

This year’s show, “Between The Pieces,” features with music performed by Phillip Glass and Blondie, centering around the beauty of broken things and inspired around kintsukuroi, the Japanese art form of repairing cracked pottery with silver lacquer.
