Must-Watch Winds Groups Head To Cincinnati Area For Power Regional

Interested in WGI Winds? Well, this is the weekend to watch for WGI Winds fans across the country. The 2018 WGI Mid-East Winds/Percussion Power Regional in Highland Heights, Kentucky, will showcase a few groups that have helped set the standard for winds groups heading into next month's World Championships

One of those ensembles is Dayton, Ohio's Rhythm X, a pioneer of the activity and a serious contender to repeat as world champion.

Here are your must-watch groups performing in Northern Kentucky University's BB&T Arena this weekend. See the full schedule here.

10:09 AM ET - Daviess County (KY)

Daviess County (KY) is a group that emerged in last year's WGI World Championships finals, having finished its season in fourth place in Winds Scholastic A.

The group will perform its 2018 show "Sherlock: A Study In Pink" on Saturday morning and will certainly be looking for an early win this weekend at NKU. Daviess County finished its season with a 92.45 in Dayton, an impressive number for any brand-new finalist, especially when the first-place group in the same class only has a 94.775.

Needless to say, Daviess County is looking for a successful preliminary run so it can get its feedback from judges and push even harder into the 2018 WGI Winds World Championships.

10:18 AM ET - Inertia Independent

Similar to Rhythm X Winds, Inertia has two world championships, representing Independent A, under its belt. This group from Ohio is setting the standard for Independent A and will certainly be looking to have a good first showing on FloMarching.

Inertia Independent was around during the inception of WGI Winds and became a huge part of that legacy in April 2015. Seeing how the group fares this weekend will definitely have competitive implications moving forward into World Championships, despite no other Independent A groups attending the Mid-East Power Regional.

11:06 AM ET - Rhythm X Winds

If you're looking for a group that is at the pinnacle of WGI Winds, check out Rhythm X Winds on Saturday morning. X Winds had its first season in the inaugural year of WGI Winds (2015) and started its legacy with an Independent World championship.

The group was topped by Aimachi in 2016 but came back in 2017 stronger than ever—a season that would end in yet another world championship for the Ohio ensemble. Will 2018 be a back-to-back year for X Winds? The Dayton natives are certainly hungry.
