WGI Guards Take Over Indianapolis In Epic 2018 Contest

While it’s not a power regional, the 2018 WGI Indianapolis Guard Regional certainly has the look and feel of a major power regional.

With two days of performances between two separate venues this weekend’s contest will be a massive early season test to see how the rest of 2018 will shake out.

Greenfield Central Venue

At Greenfield Central High School, the Scholastic A class will have the entire venue to themselves beginning at 10am EST. With 4 rounds composed of 30+ guards it will be a tough road to finals on Sunday.

Marian Catholic who finished 2nd overall in 2017 is set to return in Round 3 performing at 2:16pm EST. Kettering Fairmont was also a finalist last year finishing 5th. They will be performing in prelims on Saturday at 2:08pm EST. Another 2017 finalist who is back is Decatur Central. They take the floor at 10:56am EST in Round 1.

Goshen High School provided the marching arts community with one of the most heart touching stories in 2017 when their music stopped mid-performance. Goshen will perform in prelims at 10:08am EST.

Warren Central Venue

At the Warren Central site the remaining classes will perform with the hopes of making finals on Sunday. This will include Regional A, Independent A, Open, and World.

Fishers, LaPorte, Hamilton Southeastern, Reeths-Puffer, Castle, and Greenwood Community were all finalists in Scholastic Open last year. They are all returning along with 2017 Scholastic A Champion Milford who advanced into Open Class following a fantastic 2017 season.

Scholastic World will be one of the most contested classes in Indianapolis. Let’s put it this way, 9 out of 10 guards were finalists at the 2017 WGI World Championships including the gold medalists from Carmel and silver medalists from Avon.

Let’s not forget the 4 Independent World Class guards set to perform as well. Interplay, Pride of Cincinnati, Bluecoats Indoor, and Onyx all make their debut on FloMarching.

Make sure your glued to your streaming device all weekend because this will be one of the best contests all year long! Check out the full schedule of prelims for more information about when your favorite ensemble will be performing.
