Super Bowl Sunday: Comparing Blue Devils, New England Patriots Dynasties
Super Bowl Sunday: Comparing Blue Devils, New England Patriots Dynasties
Are the Blue Devils the New England Patriots of DCI? The Patriots wish they could pull these numbers.

Listen, we're band people. I don't know nearly enough about the NFL to make subjective comparisons between the Patriots' domination of the NFL to the Blue Devils' domination of DCI, but I do know enough to make comparisons based on the facts. So let's dive into the numbers for the sake of it being Super Bowl Sunday!
| Blue Devils | New England Patriots | |
| Established | 1957 (62 years) | 1959 (60 years) |
| First Championship | 1976 | 2001 |
| Championships Since 2000 | 8 | 5 |
| Total Championships | 18 | 5 |
| Finals / Playoff Appearances | 44 | 25 |
| Championship Years | 1976, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1986, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017 | 2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016 |
Well... from those numbers it looks to me like the Blue Devils still win. With eighteen world championships since 1957, the Blue Devils averaged a championship every 3-4 years. BD had 5 instances of back-to-back wins throughout their legacy, but have yet to capture the infamous three-peat.
How about the Patriots? Just one back-to-back Super Bowl win for the team from New England. Their number of playoff appearances and division/conference wins is still very impressive, however. The team has been in the playoffs and AFC East division championship every year since 2009, including 5 appearances in the Super Bowl.
