Reading Poised To Re-Establish Dynasty In Rochester

READING 3.jpg

The Reading Buccaneers are heading into this weekend's DCA Championships on track to win another World Championship. If their 3-point lead going into finals holds, it will be the corps' 11th championship since 2005. DCA is not unfamiliar to the dynasty of a corps holding a championship title for multiple years. Take a look back through history with us at some iconic DCA dynasties.

First, let's define a dynasty. Since 1970, there have been four very distinct periods of dominance by one corps. All of them have 3 things in common: They've all won 5 or more championships. The dynasties have sustained for greater than 5 years. And, they've all won more than 70% of the championships during their run.

Hawthorne Caballeros (1970-1976)

During this earliest dynasty, the Caballeros established themselves as the corps of dominance in the 70's. Capturing 5 championships during this run, the only corps to knock Hawthorne off were the New York Skyliners.

Bushwackers (1986-1993)

During one of the most revolutionary times in the marching arts, the Bushwackers were in complete control of DCA. With 6 championships, including a tie in 1988, the Bushwackers raised the level of dynasty dominance.

Syracuse Brigadiers (1997-2002)

While the Cavaliers were beginning their own DCI Dynasty, the Brigadiers had one going in DCA. Capturing 5 championships in 6 years with 1 tie in 1997, the Syracuse Brigadiers were mastering the competition in Allentown, PA and Syracuse, NY.

Reading Buccaneers (2005-?)

Although the Reading Buccaneers have won DCA Championships before, never in the history of DCA has there been such an elongated championship run. Beginning in 2005, Reading started their run with 6 championships in a row! After that streak end in 2011, the Buccaneers ran off another 4 in row before coming in 2nd in 2016. Since 2005, they've only lost 2 championships by a combined 1.6 points (Minnesota Brass 2011, Cadets 2 2016).

With a commanding 3 point lead heading into finals weekend in Rochester, the Reading Buccaneers look to regain control of DCA and continue their dynasty. Will they make it 11 championships in 13 years on Sunday? Tune in to FloMarching to watch!
