Getting Into The Numbers

The Bluecoats' first score of the 2016 season (69.700) was the lowest World Champion's score starting out the season since 2008. They also have the largest differential from First Score of Season to Last Score of Season of nearly 28 points (27.950). Similarly, the Boston Crusaders finished 12th in the 2016 DCI Finals, and started that season with the lowest score of the last 11 years for anyone that finished in 12th (60.450).

The smallest differential for a World Champion, since 2008, between First Score of the Season and Last Score of Season was the Blue Devil's 2010 show, "Through A Glass, Darkly" with a differential of only 21.400 points.

Over the last 11 years, World Champions have seen an average difference of 25.641 points from the first show to last show. Additionally, the corps who ends up in 12th place will see an average differential of 21.547 points from their First Score of the Season to their score at DCI World Championship Finals.

Considering only the Finalists since 2008, the lowest scoring 12th place corps received an 84.000, with the highest scoring 12th place corps being Crossmen in 2018, receiving an 86.750. The average score for a 12th place corps since 2008 is 85.361 at DCI World Championship Finals.

The Blue Devils and Bluecoats received the same score for their winning shows "Ink" (2015) and "Downside Up" (2016), at 97.650. That score is an entire two points lower than the highest recorded score in World Class, achieved by the Blue Devils in 2014 (99.650).

In their first show of the season, the 2010 Glassmen received the highest First Score of the Season for 12th place groups (since 2008), with a whopping 70.300 (4.80 points higher than the next highest First Score of the Season of 12th place groups since 2008). That season, Glassmen also had the lowest differential from First Score of the Season to Last of only 15.500 points.
