Bands of America will kick off its southern contests in Powder Springs, Georgia, on Saturday, September 17. The host venue, Walter Cantrell Stadium, will begin selling ticket sales at 9:30AM, and then open its gates at 10AM. The first band to open preliminary competitions, Greenwood High School, will take the field at 10:30AM.
2014 champion and 2013 silver medalist Harrison High School will compete second at 10:45AM. Because the defending champions, Fort Mill High School, will not be in attendance, Harrison is favored to win the championship.
They could be challenged by Kennesaw Mountain High School, though. The 2014 runner-up, Kennesaw Mountain, didn't compete in 2015's Powder Springs contest, so expect them to be hungry for the crown.
It's always interesting to see bands this early in the season as they set the tone for the rest of the year. Don't miss a moment of the action -- watch at the stadium or from the comfort of home by live-streaming the competition on FloMarching.
