What To Expect

We're nearing the midway point of the 2025 Drum Corps International season, which means that all eyes are on the Lone Star State as fans and corps alike begin preparing for the 2025 DCI Southwestern Championship. 

Drum corps from across the country have poured into Texas, bringing the heat as the first major head-to-heads of the season begin popping up. All of the excitement of back-to-back days of Texas competition culminates in the first day-long, all-out battle of the season. Whether you're watching from the stands of the Alamodome in San Antonio, or the comfort of your home, FloMarching will be bringing you all the excitement, all day on Saturday, July 19th. 

As the weekend draws nearer, here's everything you need to know to be prepared for Saturday's San Antonio showdown:

Competitive Preview

Drum corps fans have been treated to a wonderfully exciting week of high scores and exciting switch-ups in the overall 2025 DCI Rankings thanks to a slew of Texas Tour shows (plus DCI Broken Arrow). Before everyone heads to San Antonio for the 2025 DCI Southwestern Championship, let's recap what has happened over the last few days in preparation for the showdown in the Alamodome.

Let's start off with DCI Broken Arrow.

While we didn't see the same volume of competitors make it out to Broken Arrow as in previous years, the assembled cast of corps collectively turned up the heat to get fans prepared for Texas Tour. Here's a look at how Broken Arrow played out: 

Here are a few key standouts that fans should keep in the back of their mind throughout this week headed into the 2025 DCI Southwestern Championship:

1. The battle between Phantom Regiment and Carolina Crown is probably going to be one of the most exciting races of the year. These two corps have traded places numerous times already throughout the season, adding to the overall intrigue. The caption breakdown confirms that these two corps are neck-and-neck, with 0.3 points being the largest gap between these two (outside of the Brass caption, where Crown looms over Regiment with a 0.5 point difference.
2. Bluecoats are already nearing that coveted 90-point threshold, receiving 9.0 scores already in GE 2 and Visual Proficiency. 
3. Spirit of Atlanta surged ahead of Crossmen at Broken Arrow, with strong scores in the Music captions (Brass, Analysis, Percussion) helping solidify their 4th place finish.

On the docket tonight are two Texas-sized showdowns: DCI Denton and DCI Waco.
