You'll Want To Keep An Eye On...

1. Rouse High School

  • BOA Austin took place on September 23rd, and the big news of the day was that Rouse HS came out victorious against a slate of super competitive programs, many of which will be in attendance at this year's Texas Marching Classic. Rouse HS topped the scoreboards with an impressive 85.150, with Vandegrift HS coming in second (85.000), and Vista Ridge claiming third (83.500). As Vandegrift HS is the reigning TMC champion, it'll be interesting to see what happens when they go head-to-head again.

2. Lake Travis High School

  • A new program entering the 2023 Texas Marching Classic lineup is Lake Travis High School. The Cavalier Band hails from Lakeway, TX which is just Northwest of Austin. The ensemble's 2023 program is titled 'AnonymoUS' and "is about going from being a nameless and faceless member of a group to developing a sense of independence and personal identity, even if and especially when that makes you stand out against the group." Lake Travis HS was also a competitor at the 2023 BOA Austin show previously mentioned and ended the evening in sixth place overall with a score of 80.250. While it'll take a big surge in scores for them to finish atop the TMC table, it's very possible to see them fight for a third place finish with the likes of Cedar Park HS.

3. The October 14th solar eclipse

  • Well, you won't want to literally keep an eye on the solar eclipse, but the astronomical event aligning with the Texas Marching Classic is an added bonus to the event's lineup. The annual solar eclipse will "cross North, Central, and South America [and] will be visible in parts of the US, Mexico, and many countries in South and Central America." (NASA) Maximum visibility for the event will happen right around noon, so spectators can enjoy a break from the TMC action, grab some lunch, and check out the solar eclipse at its peak.
