There were numerous WGI regionals across the country this past weekend, March 11-12. Here's what you need to know about the outcomes

Arcadia HS Overpowers Chino Hills HS, Perc Action Cut Short in Hattiesburg

Mid-March is fast approaching, which means that it's getting close to crunch time for the 2023 WGI season. This past weekend, March 11-12, audiences across the nation saw hundreds of ensembles compete and display high levels of achievement while being rewarded with even higher scores. Unfortunately, one regional was cut short due to weather, resulting in a handful of percussion ensembles only competing one time this weekend instead of twice. Here's a breakdown of how the scoring shook out at each regional.

Percussion & Winds Regionals

Hattiesburg Percussion & Winds Regional

In the Winds category, Bob Jones HS reigned supreme in Scholastic A, and took home the gold with a score of 83.350, beating out Hernando HS (81.650), Brandon HS (79.950), and more.

On the Percussion side, bad weather cut the 2-day event down to one day, resulting in Saturday's Prelims scores counting as each ensemble's Finals score. Music City Mystique topped the Independent Marching World class with an 88.550, and Petal HS took home gold in Scholastic Marching World with a score of 81.250. In Scholastic Marching Open, Pace HS overpowered the competition and ended atop the table with a score of 81.450. Vandebilt Catholic HS clawed its way to a first-place finish in the ever-competitive Scholastic Marching A class, finishing Finals with a score of 80.900. St. Martin Independent won in Independent Marching A with a score of 75.600, Saraland took home the victory in Scholastic Concert A with a score of 79.600, and Robertsdale HS was crowned the Scholastic Concert Open winner with a score of 81.100.

Phoenix Percussion & Winds Regional

Flux Indoor Percussion claimed gold in Independent Marching World with a score of 83.350, while Vision Percussion broke away from the pack and nabbed a first-place finish in Independent Marching Open with a score of 85.600. Footbills HS sat atop the table in Scholastic Marching Open with a score of 83.050, Pinnacle Percussion clawed out a victory in Independent Marching A with a score of 75.325, and Williams Field HS took first in Scholastic Marching A with a score of 82.425.

In the Concert classes, Corona del Sol HS won in Scholastic Concert Open with an impressive 87.800 and Williams Field HS claimed first in Scholastic Concert A with a score of 82.600.

On the Winds side, Foreword Winds won gold in Winds Independent Open (75.300), Etherial Winds topped the Winds Independent A class (70.525), and Williams Field HS finished the weekend in first in Winds Scholastic A (75.555).

Denver Percussion Regional

Blue Knights had an impressive first-place finish in Independent Marching World with a score of 85.000, alongside Scholastic Marching Open class-winners Fossil Ridge HS (80.050). Lakewood HS overpowered the competition in Scholastic Concert A and came out victorious with an 83.300, while Centaurus HS topped the Scholastic Marching A class with a score of 86.350.

Kaysville Percussion Regional

Gold Spike Percussion was golden in Independent Marching Open with a score of 76.400, while Lone Peak HS nabbed first in Scholastic Marching Open with a score of 78.550. In Independent Marching A, North Star Independent topped the class with a score of 84.400, and Ogden HS (78.700) squeaked out a first-place finish over Provo HS (78.650) and Nebo School District Combined Schools (78.050) in Scholastic Marching A.

Knoxville Percussion Regional

Audio Theater entertained the crowd and earned an 80.250 in Independent Marching World, while Sparkman HS finished the weekend strong in Scholastic Marching World, walking away with gold after scoring an 85.000. Buckhorn Indoor Percussion scraped out a victory in Independent Marching Open with a score of 84.650, Oak Ridge HS stole the show in Scholastic Marching A with a score of 83.150, and Ravenwood HS won Scholastic Marching Open with a score of 85.450. In the Concert classes, West HS finished the weekend with a victory in the Scholastic Concert Open class with a 75.000.

Guard Regionals

Union City Guard Regional

In Motion Performance Ensemble (IW, 79.250) and James Logan HS (SW, 75.650) were the only competitors in their classes, resulting in wins for the two groups. ZEUS Independent overpowered the competition in Independent Open, claiming gold with a score of 78.630. Laguna Creek HS won in Scholastic Open with a score of 82.630, while Sacramento State Winter Guard was the lone Independent A competitor and finished the weekend with a 74.380. In Scholastic A, Granite Bay HS pulled out the victory with a score of 82.920, while Cupertino HS claimed first in Scholastic Regional A with a score of 78.450.

Bakersfield Guard Regional

Icon Winter Guard won Independent World with a score of 81.600, while Arcadia HS topped the Scholastic World class with an impressive 83.700. Vox Artium claimed gold in Independent Open with a score of 86.500, while Clovis HS came out on top with a score of 79.400. Fresno State Independent finished the weekend with a first-place finish in Independent A with a score of 76.370, while Downey HS (84.010) won in the ever-competitive Scholastic A class, and Highland HS (82.810) won in Scholastic Regional A.

Bellevue Guard Regional

Belleville East HS won in Scholastic Open (76.700), Lakeville South HS (81.370) claimed gold in Independent A, and Liberty HS - MO (81.510) finished atop the table in Scholastic A. In Independent Regional A, Malachi RA finished in first with an 80.010, while Belleville East HS JV (82.240) got a second program victory in Scholastic Regional A

Phoenix Guard Regional

FeniX Independent was the lone Independent World competitor and finished the weekend with a score of 81.200. Palm Desert HS won in Scholastic World with a score of 71.700, Glory Independent claimed gold in Independent Open with a score of 81.600, and Desert Vista HS had a first-place finish in Scholastic Open with a score of 78.200. FeniX Independent's Independent A also went home with a victory after scoring a 77.920. In Scholastic A, Mountain Ridge HS (79.940) narrowly escaped with a first-place finish over San Marcos HS (79.920), and Williams Field HS B walked away from the weekend with a Scholastic Regional A victory with a score of 77.990.

Richmond Guard Regional

First Flight brought home a victory in Independent World with a score of 80.300, while JMU Nuance Open topped the Independent Open class with a score of 81.200. Carolina Visual Productions won the Independent A class with a score of 80.470, Grassfield HS took home the victory in Scholastic A with an 84.470, and Powhatan HS claimed gold in Scholastic Regional A with a score of 76.720.
