Building Everything From NASA Rockets To Color Guard Props

Building NASA Rockets to Props

At the WGI Indianapolis Color Guard Regional, an interesting convoy of props came rolling down the hallway. As I walked by, I noticed the back side of one of these props and this Mad Max style contraption framed by wood and wheels. When I took a picture, one of the band parents approached me and said, "It was built by a rocket engineer."

Perplexed I asked who the engineer was and all of the parents, now gathered around me turned to shout, "Randy! Get over here."

Randy Gebka is one of the band parents, more appropriately "guard dads", who helped design and build a pump cart and an elevator for Lake Park High School's color guard show. Prior to moving to Chicago and building color guard props, Randy worked for 8 years as a NASA engineer after earning an aerospace engineering degree.
