Thursday morning, September 5, Phantom Regiment announced the additions to their staff for the 2020 season including a major overhaul to the design team. The new faces will join Percussion Arranger and Caption Head Rob Ferguson on the design team but will be led by Tony Hall, a recently inducted member of the Phantom Regiment Hall of Fame.
The team is outfitted with a few names who happened to see some pretty significant success with Phantom Regiment during the 2000s. Could the next chapter of the Regiment be bringing back that time period, or will it be a completely fresh look on one of the activity's oldest corps?
Hall's experience includes drill design in the early 1990s and design consultation for the corps since. The list of corps he's designed for includes The Cadets, Velvet Knights, Blue Knights, and Sky Ryders.
We are pleased to announce the members of our 2020 design and instructional leadership teams – and they include several familiar faces. Read more at https://t.co/r0aaQYGLc3— Phantom Regiment (@PhantomRegiment) September 5, 2019
Along with Rob Ferguson, Courtney Allyson Mills will be continuing her career with Regiment, this time as Visual Caption Head alongside Bob Smith. Leading the visual direction for the corps will be accomplished designer Adam Sage, who will be taking over as Creative Visual Director and Guard Designer. Adam Sage was a guard designer and caption head for Phantom Regiment from 2005-2008 when they won their most recent DCI World Championship with the show "Spartacus." Most recently, though, Sage has worked as the visual coordinator for The Cadets and was a design consultant for Santa Clara Vanguard.
Also coming from a recent tenure with Santa Clara Vanguard will be Phantom Regiment's new brass arranger and music director JD Shaw. Shaw spent 10 years as Phantom Regiment's brass arranger during the 2000s before going to Santa Clara Vanguard for eight.
Sheldon Apo and Stephanie Chavez will be returning in 2020 as color guard caption heads while Brad Toth returns in the brass caption.
