WGI Winds Update: Power Regionals Results

Power Regionals have wrapped up across the country, and the WGI Winds division is set for an exciting showing at the 2018 World Championships in Dayton, Ohio, on April 12-14! As the division sees growth each year, more groups are putting their shows on the floor—and in front of judges' eyes—much earlier in the season.

Here's a breakdown of the scores in each classification at this year's WGI Winds Power Regionals:

South Power Regional (March 17-18)

Kicking it off in chronological order: the South Power Regional hosted six winds groups from the deep South to perform in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Scholastic A held the most groups with four in attendance, all of which scored at least a 76 in preliminary competition.

West Power Regional (March 24-25)

Although there were only three groups out in Southern California at the West Power Regional, all three brought some top-notch winds performance to the floor this past weekend. 

Valley Christian Performing Indoor Ensemble from San Jose, CA, was a definite standout in Independent A and will be looking to take the Independent A World Championship title from Inertia, a group from Ohio that claimed the title last year.

Mid-East Power Regional (March 24-25)

Perhaps the most exciting Winds competition of 2018 so far, the Mid-East Power Regional was a beacon of light in the snowy Kentucky landscape on Sunday. Rhythm X Winds pushed to the next level of winds, earning a high score of 92.1 in finals competition, improving from a 90.8. 

Chromium Winds also had a great showing on Saturday evening, pushing their score to an 85.3, nearly 1.5 points higher than prelims. Despite a 9.6-point penalty in prelims, Daviess County (KY) managed to get its score up to an 80.15 in finals.
