Since 2010, there have been 64 ensembles that have won gold medals in the WGI percussion division.

Whether it’s been in Independent World, Scholastic A, or Concert, there have been quite a few extraordinary scores, winning streaks, and accumulated achievements in the division over the past eight years.

99.600

This is the highest score achieved by any ensemble in the percussion division. Who do you think it was? It may surprise many to find out it came from the Scholastic Concert World class.

Streaks Of 4

Since 2011, there have been 46 Fan Favorite Awards handed out in the percussion division. River City Rhythm and Dartmouth High School are tied with the most Fan Favorite Awards. Interestingly enough both ensembles have won the award in streaks of four years in a row. River City Rhythm was selected from 2012-15, while Darmouth has earned the award in 2014-17. Will Darmouth claim a fifth in a row in 2018?

Bringing Home 7

Ayala has combined for the most number of Percussion Championships since 2010. With five from Scholastic Concert World and two more from Scholastic World, Ayala has made it a regular expectation to bring home gold.

Only 4

Only four schools have won the coveted Scholastic World championship since 2010 and of those four, only one doesn’t call Los Angeles home. Arcadia (2011), Ayala (2010, ‘16), Chino Hills (2012, ‘13, ‘15, ‘17), and Dartmouth (2014) have each won a gold medal.

97.700

Since 2010, the highest score that did not bring home gold happened in 2017. Broken City finished second behind Music City Mystique with a 97.700. That score is higher than four other gold medal scores from previous years.

So, what will 2018 have in store for the percussion realm? Opening weekend of WGI gets started on February 3 for color guard.
