Four 2017 Regional Champions Face Off In Indy
Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium has become a venerable mecca of the marching arts, and it's that time of the season to take another trip down Capitol Avenue for the Band of America Indianapolis Super Regional this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 20-21).

Five of last year's 13 Bands of America Grand National finalists are set to perform their 2017 shows during the two-day event. But, that's only a small portion of the 68 talented ensembles bringing their performance to the home turf of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts. Of those five 2016 Grand National finalists, four already have a BOA Regional Championship title in 2017.

Avon (IN), Carmel (IN), and Homestead (IN) each have regional championships from shows in Ohio, and Castle (IN) earned the award at the Tennessee Regional in late September. You'll want to see each of these Indiana bands putting their best foot forward in what is basically their backyard.

4:45 PM EDT - Homestead (IN)

As a four-time Bands of America Grand National finalist -- including a 11th-place finish in their most recent visit -- Homestead has become "one of those bands" that is recognized countrywide for its high quality of skill and performance. Earlier this season at the BOA Northwest Ohio Regional in Toledo, Ohio, Homestead edged out a band William Mason (Ohio) that beat them by 5.45 points at the end of last season. This time around, Homestead took the win by a little more than a point (1.15).

Homestead's show this season is titled "Of Fire and Ice" and features the music of "The Divine Comedy" by Robert W. Smith and original pieces by Kent Klee.

7:30 PM EDT - Carmel (IN)

Last year's Grand Champion will take the field Friday evening to perform its soothing 2017 production "Serenity." In their first trip to a BOA contest this season, Carmel earned an impressive 86.10 at BOA Dayton. In their first meeting since last year's Grand National Finals, Carmel came out on top of 2016 runner-up Avon.

The music of Carmel's show includes "Spiegel im Spiegel" by Arvo Paert, "Meditation" (from Thais) by Jules Massesnet, and original music from Richard Saucedo and Michael Macintosh.

8:45 PM EDT - Avon (IN)

After making their first appearance at BOA Northeast Ohio during the first week of BOA competition, Avon is poised to do extremely well at this weekend's Super Regional. The Marching Black and Gold earned a very close second-place finish at BOA Dayton, behind Carmel. Avon earned Outstanding Music Performance and tied with Carmel for the Outstanding General Effect award at Welcome Stadium.

This year, Avon is performing their show "TEST4MENT" using entirely music from David Maslanka's Symphony No. 4.

9 PM EDT - Castle (IN)

Wrapping up the first day of preliminary competition, Castle will be yearning for a chance to present their 2017 production "Fly To Paradise" under the lights of Lucas Oil Stadium. On Sept. 23, Castle won the BOA Tennessee Regional in Clarksville with a score of 77.65 and sweeping all three overall "Outstanding" caption awards.

The music of their show includes "One Day I'll Fly Away" originally performed by Randy Crawford, "The Hand of Fate," "Benedictus," and "I'm Alive" and "Fly to Paradise" by Eric Whitacre.
