Recap: DCA World Championship Finals
The final day of drum corps in 2017 is here! (DCA) World Championship Finals take place tonight, September 3, in the beautiful Rochester, New York! Check back here to recap the events throughout the Sunday's show! Starting off with the highest 4 scores of the A Class, then the top 10 corps from DCA's Open Class to close out the night.

September 3, Finals Performance Time and Order, local to venue (EDT)

5:40pm - Southern Knights

A huge welcome to the Southern Knights for their first ever visit to DCA World Championship finals! Strong opening statement from the mellophones. Once again, like last night, the first opening hit delivered. Great sound from the tubas overall. A little bit of some dirt in the technical passages for the mellophones before heading into the ballad segment. Love the goosestep during the bass solo! Southern Knights made an awesome first showing at DCA Finals!

5:57pm - Erie Thunderbirds

The beginning of this show really does feel like movie music. The drama built by the front ensemble music paired with the drone notes from the horns is really intriguing. It seems that some of the high brass may be struggling with all of the demand of the drill and playing up to the same volume as the low brass, however the loud sustains are not being affected. Also, love the shout sections!

6:14pm - Govenaires

Really love the energy from the first half of the show. Plenty of demand in the music with the syncopated rhythms. Also, very interesting rhythmic take on "Hide and Seek." I like the way you play with silence as much as you play with sound. Really enjoyable ending to a great show!

6:31pm - Cincinnati Tradition

A very serene opening before the drums take us straight into the thick of it. Great sound in the opening hit from the brass section. Quite a bit of volume in the opening of this show! The transitions written into the percussion's music is very tasteful and creates seamless transitions for the entire show. The crowd really seems to love this show tonight. The mellophone solo at the end really brings this very tranquil show to a head.

6:48pm - Sunrisers

As the sun recedes behind the home stands, Sunrisers take the field to start the Open Class portion of tonight's competition! After the way they handled "Caravan" last night, I am definitely looking forward to tonight's performance! Really great start with the baritone soloist, once again some great style being displayed. Tubas are really laying down the groove in front of the pit. Really powerful brass sound in the latin moment. Just like last night, the battery break was handled extremely well by the performers.

7:05pm - Bushwackers

Bringing their "Wizard of Oz" style show to Rochester, Bushwackers take the field in DCA Finals competition! Really enjoy the "Creep" intro into the first big brass hit. The flag feature was strong and matched the energy coming from the brass! More strong rifle work reflected across the entire guard in the first half of their show. It's hard to take your eyes off of the cymbals during this drum break, its always great to see a strong cymbal line! Great climax in "Creep" when you show the seong some well-deserved attention during the ballad!

7:22pm - Minnesota Brass

With their voodoo-style show "Pins and Needles," Minnesota Brass is ready to stick it to this crowd tonight! Strong introduction from the tubas with "In The Hall of the Mountain King." Some intonation issues in the first big brass hit, but overall a very strong opening and effective moment. Great flag feature in the silence during the "Dance of Vengeance" portion of the show. MB's percussion came ready to throw down tonight, really strong segments of the show when they take the spotlight. Great energy and volume through the ending!

7:39pm - Fusion Core

These uniforms are some of the best in DCA, very classy. Really great drill to start out the opener. High velocity and high excellence from the performers, especially the color guard. Really strong mellophone soli shared with the bass drums. Trumpets and snares also played extremely well together, tonight. So far the brass have really shown up to dominate this evening. Their sustains are loud and consistent as we head into "Sound of Silence." The percussion ensemble in the front with the auxiliary percussion really gives this ballad section of their show a strong backbone. You lose yourself in the beat of the drums and then the brass takes you away. The tubas really nailed their solo in "Uffe's Woodshop" tonight -- great adherence to tempo even as they move quickly across the field.

7:56pm - Kidsgrove Scouts

Definitely enjoy the separation of the blue and yellow uniformed guard members. Incredible sound in the first hit of the show! Ton of sound and energy coming from the brass performers throughout the opener. The jazz portion of your show is so much fun. The upper trumpets are having a blast in the upper register. The entire corps is handling the lower body work that matches the style really well. Quite a bit of power coming from those isolated accents right on the front sideline! Really great sound during the singing portion, as well -- accompanied very well by the trumpet soloist.

8:13pm - White Sabers

Once again, great opening statement in the company front tonight! Flags also held it tight throughout the entire first hold. Love this trombone feature, really creates a surreal effect while the rest of the hornline sprinkles in periodically. The end of the ballad was another strong moment for the flags. The trumpet solo coming out of the ballad was very tasteful. Extremely exciting and effective ending with the trombones!

8:30pm - Cadets 2

Some great sound quality coming from the Cadets 2 baritones and tubas. Really clean first hit with the elongated curve stretching across the entire field, very round! Once again, the visual package is very tight-knit across all sections tonight. High level precision being demanded of these brass members and they are executing. Great snare solo as well!

8:47pm - Caballeros

The horns really bring the drama of your introduction to a whole new level. Followed up by an impressive snare feature, the battery doesn't let the audience relax for a second. Really dramatic ending to the opener with all of the sustains coming from the brass -- great use of the sound effect to pull even more effect out of that final climax. Beautiful horn solo in the ballad, it really fits into the writing of the front ensemble extremely well. Phenomenal sound from the trumpet soloists at the end of the show, truly a goosebump inducing performance!

9:04pm - Atlanta CV

If last night's performance was any indication for how great tonight's performance will be, we're in for a treat. The opening chord slaps you in the face and puts you on the edge of your seat all in one swing! Plenty of isolated rhythms in there for the brass, raising their demand substantially. Seeing some pretty consistent marching technique from player to player, as well as pretty impressive foot-timing. Love this moment during "Hymn of Acxiom" with the curves floating across the field and the flags spread throughout, spinning the stained glass silks.

9:22pm - Buccaneers

Time for last night's leader to stand up to the hype! Reading Buccaneers take the field to a very energetic and familiar audience. Great velocity and energy from the performers right out of the gate. Beautiful box rotations on side 2 (right side of the field). Bucs rifles seem to be on a new level tonight, especially during the tuba soli. Beautiful flugelhorn solo to bring in the ballad. What an awesome ending to the ballad, as well. The brass lets off the reigns and fires away! The closer is a pure pleasure to watch as the brass inevitably lose every bit of energy running the entire time. What a long haul.
