At the DCI Central Indiana, presented by Woodwind and Brasswind, the weather rolled in and forced the event indoors. Bad weather is not anything new for drum corps and sometimes actually presents a very intimate setting for a standstill performance. Inside Ball State University's Worthen Arena, that is exactly what the audience in attendance got.

The Boston Crusaders were the first corps of the evening to absolutely melt my face off with their sound and I couldn't have been more excited to hear it. Ever since it was announced that Gino Cipriani was headed to Boston, I couldn't wait to see what he would do. I was beyond impressed.

For a corps that barely made finals that year (in a phenomenal turn of events) to come out of the gate sounding like that is absolutely incredible. They are sure to give some other big name brass corps a run of their money score-wise throughout the summer.

Another exciting change came to the percussion section with the addition of Colin McNutt & Iain Moyer, whom orchestrated an incredible show for the percussion section. Again, they're impressing everyone right out of the gate with talent.

The same could be said for Michael Townsend and the color guard, whom I was unfortunately unable to see due to the indoor nature of the show.

WICKED GAMES

There's been a lot of talk since all of this top talent jumped ship for Boston, but this year's show Wicked Games is designed to have the corps put their money where their mouth is and make you forget all about it.

The show focuses around the concept of the Salem Witch trials and opens with some eerie sound effects played along with Moonlight Sonata, giving you goosebumps in the best way before taking you on a ride through a moonlit forest. It isn't long before there are accusations, a trial, and eventually, an execution.

I very much missed the visual component of this show. I want to see the witches, the executions! I'm sure it adds an additional level to the production and truly brings you to Salem for the trials, but I'll just have to wait for another show.

Be sure to check out the Boston Crusaders at DCI Central Texas presented by FloMarching on July 20th.
