In our "From The Tower" podcast from last Thursday, FloMarching's staff discussed the trend of uniforms progressing from being iconically characteristic of their corps to becoming more show-centric. We also looked at how The Academy found a perfect balance with its 2017 uniforms between sporting recognizable "formal wear" and a design that is reflective of its newest production, "By A Hare." Well, the Blue Knights have managed to find that equilibrium as well.

For the 2017 season, the Blue Knights will flaunt a similar color scheme and pattern from the last few seasons (since their drastic change in 2014), with the addition of a screen-printed iris on the right side of their uniforms. Below you can see their uniforms from last season. The new "20i7" uniforms do not follow exactly the same format, but there is a distinct reference with their sparkling sequins and grey/white color blocking. 



In a video posted on the Blue Knights' Facebook page, head drum major Daniel Belcher unveiled the corps' uniforms and how exactly they tie into the Blue Knights' 2017 production, "i." He also hinted that the irises are reflective of each corps member's eyes, which, if true, is an intriguing development in uniform design.

It seems the corps is also ditching the shakos this season as a means of allowing the audience to have a more personal look at each performer, something that many corps are adopting as uniforms evolve with the marching arts. This opportunity to see a performer's face can create a new level of immersion for the members while at the same time enhancing the experience for the fans.



The corps also posted this video on its Instagram account, revealing that multiple colors are used for the irises of their uniforms, more evidence to support the idea that each individual member's eyes played a factor in the uniform design.
