Trends Of General Effect For Last 5 DCI Champions
How have the last five DCI World Champions fared when it comes to GE? Take a look!
When you break down the scoring sheets of DCI, General Effect creates an interesting affect on show design. With GE comprising 40 points of the 100 points awarded to corps, it is the single largest caption in terms of score weight.
It's easy to see why show design has put such a large emphasis on GE. Some might say at the risk of sacrificing the music and marching.
As we approach the 2017 season, which begins with the DCI Tour Premier on June 22, lets take a look at were the last 5 DCI World Champions started their season with regards to GE and where they finished by the end of the year.
In what some say as the most innovative show in recent history, Bluecoats were the unanimous 1's in the GE caption at finals and finished 0.55 in front of the Blue Devils. Interestingly though the Bluecoats actually ended the 2016 season with the lowest finals GE score of the last five champions. It comes as a surprise considering the use of the ramps, electronics, and uniforms.
In 2015, the Blue Devils captured their 17th DCI World Championship. However, at finals BD finished with a 38.850 in GE and were a tenth behind Carolina Crown. A year prior, BD finished the season with a perfect 40 in GE at finals. But, it might surprise you to know that the Blue Devils started the 2014 season with the lowest first GE score of the last five world champions.
Carolina Crown won their first world title in 2013 with their beloved E=mc2 show. Crown began that season on fire with a 30.200 which is the highest of the last 5 champions. They went on to finish first in GE with a 39.450.
With the 2017 season only 10 days away, the anticipation is building every day. So which corps will come out swinging in terms of GE? We shall soon find out.
