Ohio State Band Member Drills 55-Yard Field Goal, Earns Football Tryout
This week, Ohio State trumpet player Austin Brizee was invited to try out for the football team after his 55-yard kick got the Buckeye coaching staff's attention.
Ohio State band member Austin Brizee might be showcasing something other than his musical talent in stadiums next year.
This week, the trumpet player was invited to try out for the football team after his serious display of athleticism got the Buckeye coaching staff's attention:
Although he did participate in soccer in high school, Brizee hadn't ever played football--let alone kick a field goal--until that day, which makes his 55-yard range even more remarkable. He also said he sent a 60-yard kick through the uprights, but it wasn't caught on camera.
It's not far-fetched to think Brizee has a real shot at making it onto the team--the Buckeyes' current kicker, Tyler Durbin, is a senior who started as a walk-on.
"For the most part, everyone just thinks this is crazy," Brizee told For The Win. "No one would have ever thought I would have gotten a tryout just from kicking field goals in the athletic center."
